Prafulla Velury [Schedule]

Prafulla Velury is an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer, choreographer, Carnatic singer and Guru.

Prafulla started performing Andhra folk dances on stage at the age of three. Two years later, she started training in Kuchipudi dance from Guru Late Sri Yeleswarapu Suryaprakash Sarma and later from Guru .Nataraja Hamsa. Sri D V Satyakumar, a disciple of Guru Late Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam. She later graduated from Telugu University majoring in Kuchipudi Dance .

Prafulla acquired training in Carnatic Vocal from her mother Late Smt Bachu Sarojini Devi, who was a regular singer at All India Radio, had rendered vocal accompaniments to many leading Kuchipudi dancers, and had penned lyrics and composed music to many ballets and children.s songs.

Prafulla and daughter Krishna Sampada were awarded certificates by the Guinness World Records for their participation in .the largest Kuchipudi dance. during the first annual International Kuchipudi Convention organized by SiliconAndhra in Cupertino, California on June 21st, 2008.

Prafulla had toured all over India and has well over 300 performances to her credit. She has won many awards including the title of .Natya Sudhalahari..

On many popular Indian TV channels, Prafulla has choreographed and performed Kuchipudi ballets, anchored educational shows for children and also anchored shows based on Telugu Movies.

In the United States, Prafulla has been teaching Kuchipudi Dance & Carnatic Vocal to students of all ages since 1999. Prafulla and her students have performed at many places and events, including many for fund-raising causes. Receiving rave reviews and accolades have been a constant throughout Prafulla.s career. She currently resides in Rhode Island, USA.
